The City of Pittsburgh’s Fourth of July Celebration returns to Point State Park this weekend. A family-style picnic will be held the evening of July 4 at the park, with patriotic music and food vendors provided from 6-10 p.m. Fireworks will begin at twilight.
This summer is the Allegheny Overlook, a Pop-Up Park on Fort Duquesne Blvd. along the Allegheny River. Also branded as ‘AO,’ various community collaborators will provide programming for the AO through September. Additional highlights include a beer garden installation from Braddock-based Brew Gentlemen, made-to-order food from several local food trucks, games, and fantastic riverfront views.
The Pittsburgh CLO celebrates its 75th anniversary with 2021 Summer Under the Stars at Heinz Field. Enjoy The Wizard of Oz from July 8-10, followed by Pittsburgh CLO’s 75th Anniversary: A Broadway Musical Celebration, July 21-24.
Also returning this summer is the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix July 16-25. The nation’s only vintage street race and the largest vintage race event, the PVGP spans 10 days with two race weekends, car shows, parties, parades, and more.
Additional summer events and festivals include the Deutschtown Music Festival Presents: Hands Over Deutschtown on July 17; Pittsburgh Summer Restaurant Week Aug. 9-22; the 19th annual Little Italy Days Aug. 19-22; and Rock, Reggae & Relief Aug. 28. Plus, Rivers of Steel offers the Carrie Carpool Cinema at the Carrie Blast Furnaces one weekend each month.
The Only in Pittsburgh fun doesn’t end in the summer! The Beers of the Burgh Festival is set for Sept. 4, and Barrel & Flow Festival, a rebrand of the famous Fresh Fest – the nation’s first Black brew fest – follows Sept. 10-12. And, the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival returns Sept. 17-18. Presented by the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, the festival showcases the local jazz legacy. It brings the music and heritage to life. Chaka Khan will perform at the Benedum Center on Sept. 17, with the International Jazz Festival set for Highmark Stadium on Sept. 18-19.
According to the most recent STR Report, hotel occupancy within Allegheny County continues to rise, hitting a post-pandemic average high of 56.4% for the week of June 20-26. Additionally, a recent Destination Analysts Weekly American Traveler Sentiment Study showed that 77% of American travelers have trip plans right now and look to take an average of 2.0 leisure trips in the next three months.
