Built in 1667, The Daniels House

Initially constructed by skilled shipbuilders and carpenters, The Daniels House has witnessed more than three centuries of local history. In the mid-1700s, it was home to the Silsbee family, who played a significant role in the area's development. Later, in the mid-1800s, the house was divided into two properties, each with unique charm and character.

The Daniels House served various purposes throughout the years, showcasing its versatility and adaptability. It was transformed into apartments, a day nursery, and even a boarding house, reflecting the changing needs and trends of the times. Though it experienced a period of vacancy, it later found loving caretakers in Theodore Perry and Winifred Haller, who reopened the first floor as a historic tea room, aiming to preserve and celebrate the house's storied past.

The journey of The Daniels House continued in 1962 when it was purchased by Thomas and Catherine Gill, who recognized its potential as a bed and breakfast. The couple dedicated themselves to transforming the property into a welcoming haven for travelers, maintaining its historic charm while modernizing the amenities to meet the demands of contemporary guests.

In 2019, the torch was passed to new owners, Patrick Bentivegna and Adele Lee, who embarked on a complete restoration of The Daniels House. Carefully preserving its original architectural features and paying homage to its rich heritage, they breathed new life into this historic landmark. With meticulous attention to detail, the house was reopened as a bed and breakfast, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the fascinating chapters of Salem's history.

The Daniels House is a true gem of American architecture, providing an unparalleled glimpse into the past. With its exceptional character and irreplaceable ancient details, it invites visitors to embark on a journey back in time, enveloped by the stories of the Silsbee family, the days of tea rooms and boarding houses, and the warmth and hospitality of its current owners.
